If we trace back this game, we can see the strong connection to the old kids’ game from ancient India, Greece, and China. It used to be called as battledore and shuttlecock. It was started from around 2000 years ago but got its official international recognition in Olympic Barcelona, 1992. In this time, people finally had eyes opened on how fighting with rackets and shuttlecock was important to win the precious gold medal. Beneath this federation, they conduct various championship. In numerous countries such as Indonesia, Japan, Denmark, India, China, and the game itself is called as BWF Superseries.

Besides the professional championship, badminton often is played as a recreational game as well as an option for doing fitness. For example in India, there is a tradition do badminton not only to improve health but also to build good relation across generation, from children, adult, and elderly.

Talking about badminton is not complete without discussing which country becomes the powerhouse in each tournament.   For a long period, several countries have permanent athletes in the top ranking from various categories. Take examples, Indonesia dominates the Men’s Double with Kevin Sanjaya and Markus Gideon, Japan with Kento Momota in Men’s Single and Akane Yamaguchi in Women’s Single. While China with Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong in Mixed Doubles. India, Malaysia, Denmark, Thailand, South Korea also has delegates in the top 10 of each category.

Although India is the origin country, it takes a long period for them to have a good rank in badminton. Since the beginning, China, Indonesia, and few other countries already dominate every category. But right now, India shows their capability to become the next powerhouse of badminton. With the rise of abundant young generations, it becomes the priceless asset for India to shift the supremacy from another country.
